A long historical presence in Asia
SCOR Global Life has been active in the Asia Pacific Market for more than 3 decades. During this time, the company has established itself as a leading reinsurer in Asia.

The Asia Pacific operation encompasses the greater China region (People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau), Japan, South Korea, the Indian Subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal), the ASEAN states as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Asia Pacific is a key market for SCOR Global Life

  • over 300 active treaties
  • more than 150 clients
  • spread over 15 countries in Asia Pacific

The region currently constitutes 10% of the written premium of SCOR Global Life and this is expected to increase significantly over the next few years.

In the recent past, SGL embarked on an ambitious expansion programme in Asia Pacific beginning with the establishment of a Retakaful operation in Labuan, Malaysia in 2009.

In April 2010, SGL secured the coveted licence to operate life & health reinsurance business in China. (Press release : FR / ENG).

Strong Synergies with SCOR Property & Casualty (SGPC)
Unlike many reinsurers where the life and P&C divisions work independently of each other, both divisions within the SCOR Group have benefited from working closely.

This has been a boon to our clients as together we are able to provide the full range of support especially in products which combines both Life, P&C elements, for example householder insurance with mortgage life covers.

Local Empowerment with International Support
SGL’s decentralised marketing and underwriting policy combined with the technical expertise of its local staff are reflected in the extensive underwriting authorities awarded to the Asia Pacific operation.

This ensures that our clients receive prompt response to their queries and that we have sufficient flexibility to make important business decisions to support our clients.

Product Design and Actuarial Support

  • Support in introducing new products to the market for example SGL helped develop the first Long Term Care Insurance and Guaranteed Issue products in South Korea as well as Advanced Critical Illness designs in Taiwan.
  • Support new life insurance setups in developing markets for example on the preparation of business plans and support for  product development (product design, actuarial bases, underwriting and sales materials).

Capital Management Solutions

  • Tailored solutions in the area of capital management and financial reinsurance.

New Distribution Channels Development

  • Support in the development of new distribution channels working in conjunction with our wholly owned direct marketing subsidiary ReMark International.

Underwriting Support

  • Our online rating tool, SOLEM with ratings adapted to local market conditions (where applicable), allows the users to make decisions regarding complex risks.
  • A team of locally based underwriters backed-up by our international network of Medical Doctors is at your disposal to provide support for facultative underwriting or referral services.

Training & Seminars

  • Regular training and seminar programmes (held regionally in Asia Pacific or in our Paris Head Office) for our clients covering underwriting, claims  handling and actuarial sciences amongst others.
