P&C - SBS Engineering Underwriter

To develop a Facultative portfolio of Large Corporate Risks and carry out the marketing plan delegated to him based on technical and economic criteria in order to achieve the objectives of profitability and growth defined by SCOR Business Solutions General Management. The Underwriter is based in Singapore and reports to the Regional Engineering Construction Manager (and by default to SBS Regional Management). The Underwriter is an interface between the clients and the company. He is in contact in particular with risk manager, the insured, ceding companies and brokers. He is in close contact with his colleagues in other underwriting centers. He is supported by technical assistants.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Study Underwriting submissions and evaluation of risk exposures
  • Select risks based on technical and economic criteria
  • Conduct negotiation to achieve favourable terms and conditions of acceptance and propose tailor-made solutions to clients
  • Source for prospects and identify new opportunities to contribute towards the development of new portfolio
  • Maintaining an accurate computer database of approaches and risks accepted
  • Provide technical assistance to our clients by conducting training seminars
  • Promote SCOR’s image via marketing of our Large Corporate Risks capabilities
  • Maintain relationships with clients and brokers
  • Assist Claims Department of SCOR Global P&C with technical input on new/existing claims
  • Contribute to the development of the company’s business strategy and profitability

Required experience and Education

  • Mechanical Engineering graduate from a recognized University or equivalent with several years of relevant industrial experience preferable plus some related experience in the insurance industry.
  • Inter-personal and commercial skills
  • Team-work oriented
  • Organized and rigorous
  • Fluent in oral and written English. Proficient in written and spoken Mandarin will be an advantage
  • Prepared to travel extensively
