Have you ever heard of the reinsurance industry?
Help businesses worldwide deal with risk by becoming an insurance or reinsurance professional.

The reinsurance industry, often overshadowed by the more widely known insurance sector, remains a mystery to many young individuals. However, this industry plays a crucial role in reducing uncertainty for organisations and managing and controlling their risks. SCOR, a global reinsurer, offers a diverse range of innovative solutions to its clients to help them manage risk. At the core of its operations lies “The Art & Science of Risk”, where SCOR leverages its industry recognised expertise and cutting-edge financial solutions to contribute to the welfare and resilience of society. With three distinct business units – Property & Casualty, Life & Health, and Investments – SCOR operates in around 30 countries, employing over 3,000 highly skilled professionals. These experts provide services to more than 4,000 clients worldwide, helping them navigate the complex world of insurance and reinsurance to manage their risk exposure effectively. By staying true to its core values of expertise, partnership, and innovation, SCOR has established itself as a leading player in the reinsurance industry, contributing to the stability and growth of the global economy.

"I was first unaware of how insurance supports the world and individuals from unforeseen events… I now feel more resilient towards life’s challenges and a part of an industry which helps shape the future of business"

A variety of opportunities

For young professionals seeking a career in the insurance and reinsurance industry, SCOR offers a variety of early career opportunities aimed at making the sector more accessible. These opportunities include internships, apprenticeships and graduate trainee contracts, which provide valuable on-the-job learning, study support, mentoring programs and networking events.

SCOR is committed to an inclusive culture of learning and development, recognising the importance of investing in the next generation of diverse leaders. Through its early career programs, SCOR aims to attract young talent and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the dynamic and challenging world of insurance.

In 2022, SCOR launched its Summer Internship Programme in the UK as a part of its Diversity and Inclusion initiative. The company welcomed its first cohort last summer in collaboration with the African-Caribbean Insurance Network (ACIN) and the 10,000 Black Interns campaigns. The aim of the programme was to provide opportunities for young professionals from underrepresented diverse background to gain an insight into the wide variety of careers available within the sector and giving these individuals the chance to work alongside specialists and build their networks by spending time in different areas of the business. Throughout this eight-week learning experience, the interns developed valuable skills, both professional and personal.

"The internship was a great opportunity to gain an insight into the (re) insurance industry and for me to be equipped with new skills, knowledge and experience"
- Ekose Obaigbona
