Held on 24 and 25 June in Paris, our Innovation Days event brought together industry experts from across the world to discuss how (re)insurance can improve resilience and support the transition to a better future.
With an introduction on the first day by P&C CEO Jean-Paul Conoscente, the event focused on two main themes: ecological resilience and the future of mobility.
Day One explored how (re)insurers can become key players in ecological restoration and nature resilience, demonstrating that, from financing nature-based solutions to setting industry standards, innovation is shaping a more resilient planet.
Titled “Insuring Nature’s Resilience,” this day featured two keynote speeches. The first, by Professor of International Forest Governance at ETH Zurich, Claude Garcia, looked at becoming a change architect. The second was delivered by Sarah Payne, the CFO of nature restoration company Nattergal. From the perspective of a client, Sarah discussed the benefits of Restore, the first product launched for our Ecological Restoration Insurance Solution, which is part of SCOR’s nature restoration and conservation initiative NatReCo. This first product has now been followed by a second — Manage — which was launched during the event.
Complementing the keynotes were panel discussions on understanding the ecosystem restoration landscape, the role and responsibility of the insurance industry in nature resilience, the importance of standards for restoration projects, and the future landscape leveraging NatReCo. Our own SCOR experts were also joined by representatives from Beijing University, the private investment firm Ardian, AXA, Diot Siaci Corporate Solutions, the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), the non-profit ratings agency Foundation for Nature, the NatReCo Lead Advisory Group (LAG), and the project developer NatureRe.
Day Two took a deep dive into the future of mobility — from electric vehicles, battery technologies and novel risk prevention to the rise of autonomous vehicles — to explore how (re)insurance can help define the road ahead.
Titled “The Future of Mobility is Here,” this second day had an equally impressive line-up of speakers, with three keynote speeches and three panel discussions. The keynotes covered the prevention of fatigue-related claims (Riccardo Groppo, CEO of Sleep Advice Technologies), the future of battery technology (Guilhem Marijon, Deputy CEO of CAAREA), and autonomous vehicles (Guido di Pasquale, Managing Director of PAVE Europe). The panel discussions, once again featuring both SCOR and external experts, looked at the trends and challenges of the mobility landscape, how insurance can facilitate market evolution, and the future landscape of automotive insurance. The keynote and SCOR speakers were joined for these discussions by participants from IOT Insurance Observatory, Justos Seguros, Odémot, DriveQuant, AON, and Bo Wang Holdings China.
