Carolyn Covington

Vice President, Actuary - Experience Analysis

Carolyn is responsible for leading the mortality and lapse experience research including projects related to post-level term experience, cause of death analysis and mortality improvement. She also manages the production of client experience studies for new business. Her team leverages learnings from their research to update best estimate assumptions and to provide insights for product development and inforce management.

Prior to joining the company in 2020, Carolyn was vice president at an actuarial consulting firm where she led a variety of projects including product development, financial reporting, and actuarial audits. Carolyn started her career working for a large U.S. life reinsurer where she was part of the financial reporting team with a focus on embedded value and economic capital reporting. 

Carolyn holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from Washburn University.  She is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). She also holds the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) designation through the Society of Actuaries.

A frequent presenter for the Society of Actuaries, she has also presented for the American Academy of Actuaries and the American Fraternal Alliance. Carolyn is an active volunteer with the Society of Actuaries, currently serving on the Mortality and Longevity Program Steering Committee. She is a former chair of the Smaller Insurance Company section council and has volunteered for the exam grading, writing, and syllabus committees for the Society of Actuaries fellowship exams. Since 2022, she has served on the board of directors for a mutual company in the Chicago area.
